Big Moon Ideas is owned and operated by Kimberly Haws (aka: Kimberly Williams), a graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism (General). This means she studied every aspect of Journalism the department had to offer, including: news reporting, magazine editing, ad copywriting and design, page layout and design, feature writing, ethics and laws of the press, public relations, and more. Kimberly supplemented her Journalism studies with Art classes and Spanish language courses while working full-time as a Marketing Manager. She was an early adopter of the Adobe Creative Suite, and taught herself the essentials of SEO and Web design. The improvements she made to her employer's website ensured their site ranked on the first page of relevant search results on Google, up from 33.
After working as an e-Business Consultant based in Dallas, Texas, Kimberly was hired as an independent contractor to provide Corporate Communications services to two relatively new start-ups in Jacksonville, Florida. She designed and delivered the companies' first-ever print advertisements, marketing materials, and B2B ad strategy. She was responsible for coordinating all internal and external communications, including writing and designing client-facing newsletters, branding PowerPoint presentations, creating infographics, and coordinating two-day corporate events.
While working full-time, Kimberly attended the University of Florida's Executive MBA program in Gainesville where she obtained a Master's Degree in Business Administration. The two-year program gave her the skills needed to communicate and collaborate with managers at all levels, from the "C-Suite" on down. It also sharpened her ability to see the big picture and to understand the business goals that drive ROI.
However, financial success isn't Kimberly's biggest motivator. Family and heritage are. After The Great Recession hit Florida, she returned to Oklahoma to be near and help care for her aging parents and grandmother. She put her entrepreneurial aspirations on hold for a time in exchange for predictable work hours and weekends free to spend with family. After the passing of her mother, grandmother, and step-father, Kimberly began doing business as Big Moon Ideas with the goal of making a living through writing and design again.
Kimberly is a proud member of the Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma, and is eager to use her skills for the benefit of Indian Country and beyond. She is passionate about the climate crisis, social justice, renewable energy, and protecting the Earth. She loves working as a team, and hopes to assist other Native entrepreneurs and BIPOC-led organizations achieve their dreams.
